Cardiff business has designs on the npower Ashes Series
Cardiff businesses are enjoying a boost thanks to the Ashes coming to the city, according to series title sponsor npower. One local business which has already benefited is Queen Street-based CommsCreative, which has designed all the visual material for Glamorgan County Cricket Club as it prepares to host the most famous cricket series in the world.
CommsCreative, which was formed five years ago and has a team of 10 people, has worked with Glamorgan County Cricket Club for the last two years. With the npower Ashes Series coming to Wales for the first time, npower is highlighting the local businesses that have been integral to getting Cardiff ready for the first test on 8 July.
Rob Paton, director at CommsCreative, comments:
"The npower Ashes Series coming to Cardiff has created a real buzz, and really puts Welsh Cricket on the map. It has also contributed to a financial boost for the city, not just companies like ours, but hotels, pubs restaurants and tourist attractions. That’s why it’s great that npower is recognising the important role so many local businesses play to help a major international event become a reality.
"Working with Glamorgan County Cricket Club to help them prepare for the Ashes has been really exciting for our team. We have designed everything from print advertising to the website – it has been a busy but extremely rewarding time!"
Julia Lynch-Williams, director of energy services at npower, comments:
"npower has been a major sponsor of English cricket for many years, and we felt that this year it was important to highlight the smaller businesses that are integral to the running of the Ashes. The work done by CommsCreative will be seen by an audience of millions, so it is a great showcase for the work done in the city."
As part of its support for small businesses, npower also conducted a free energy audit at CommsCreative, to show where cost and carbon savings could be made. The results showed that with a small investment in energy-efficiency the design company could see savings of £1000 per year on its bills. In fact, replacing the current 4-strip 36 Watt T8 fluorescent lighting with 3-strip 28 Watt T5 HF fluorescent lighting could save up to £600 per year.
Julia Lynch-Williams continues:
"Our audit showed that CommsCreative could make considerable savings by making simple changes such as fitting thermostatic radiator valves and daylight sensors to lighting.
"In addition, by making our recommended changes, CommsCreative could also save five tonnes of CO2 a year. This is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting smaller businesses, by helping them reduce costs, and carbon emissions."
Rob Paton concludes:
"The recommendations in the energy audit were a real eye-opener for us, as it is easy to make changes to make us more energy efficient. Like any small business, cost savings are important, particularly in the current climate, so we will be taking the suggestions on board."
